PUSH/ A Community Opera
Battle Festival, Glyndebourne and the De La Warr Pavilion
The town of Battle is the site of the Battle of Hastings – it all happened right here!
Battle Festival will mark this momentous date in history with a major new opera, commissioned from internationally acclaimed composer Howard Moody, in collaboration with Glyndebourne Opera.
Inspired by events that shaped our history, PUSH explores themes of invasion, loss and the redeeming power of human kindness.
Written by internationally acclaimed composer Howard Moody, the opera is inspired by the true story of Simon Gronowski, who was pushed from a train bound for Auschwitz by his mother in 1943. Mr Gronowski will be guest of honour at this world premiere.
Soloists from Glyndebourne and musicians from some of the UK’s major orchestras will be joined by a choir of 250 children and adults from across 1066 Country in a thrilling and innovatively staged production from director Simon Iorio and designer Ele Slade.
Think BIG - think World Class - and expect the unexpected...
and remember, events in Battle have the power to change the course of history and shape the future!
The world premiere of our Community Opera will take place at the De La Warr Pavilion on Saturday 1 October 2016, 3.30 & 7.30pm.
It will be followed by a semi-staged version in Battle on Saturday 8 October, 7.30pm, during the month long Battle Festival
