Associate Event/ Hew Locke: Artist's Talk
International artist, Hew Locke will talk about his work, which addresses recurring themes of visual expressions of power, trophies, globalisation, movement of people and the creation of cultures. He uses a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, photography and sculpture and extensively found objects and collage. His large scale sculptural works are constructed from everyday materials ranging from mass produced toys, souvenirs, cake decorations, sequins and plastic flowers. Locke exhibits his work widely both nationally and internationally, the most recent exhibition at Tate Britain being 'Artist and Empire: Facing Britain’s Imperial Past'. www.hewlocke.net
The event is hosted by SoCo Artists who are referencing his installation, 'For Those in Peril on the Sea' (2011) in their collaborative installation 'Sea Crossing' (at Electro Studios Project Space), also part of Root 1066.
