Flat Pack Castle

Flat Pack Castle

Did you know that the very first Hastings castle was a flat pack?

It was a wooden 'motte and bailey' construction brought over in pieces on the Norman longboats for quick and easy assembly, allowing time for a stone castle to be built. Inspired by this story, ROOT 1066 commissioned Hastings artist Bob Humm to make his own version.

The Flat Pack Castle is a mobile space that is full of possibilities. It will be popping up at events around Hastings and beyond throughout the summer and during the festival itself. Open one of its many doors to find a performance, an exhibition or even a mini-cinema!

The Flat Pack Castle will provisionally appear at the following events:
2 July: America Ground Celebrations
9 July: Blacksmiths on the Beach (on the Stade)
10 July: St Leonards Festival
23 July: Bexhill Roaring 20's
6 August: Old Town Carnival Week
3 September: Priory Meadow Shopping Centre
10 September: ROOT 1066 VIP launch (on Hastings Pier)
17 September: Seafood and Wine Festival (on the Stade)
18 September: Grosvenor Gardens (to screen Edith by Andrew Kötting)
24 September: Battle Festival (Outside Battle Abbey)
