Fishermen of Quiberville: A Photo Essay
John Cole has been photographing the Hastings fishing community since 1991 and a number of his photos can be seen hanging on the black net huts and fishmongers' shops of Rock-a-Nore.
ROOT 1066 has sent John to Normandy, to photograph the fishermen and their families of the small fishing village of Quiberville, near Dieppe. During the festival, a dozen Quiberville portraits will hang on the net huts alongside their Hastings counterparts. The project illustrates the strong connections between the two fishing communities, binding England and France through an industry that has been important to both for so many years.
Simultaneously, some of John's images of the Hastings fishing community will be shown in New Haven as part of the Diep-Haven Festival and Normandie Impressioniste.
